Augusta
	A city on the Ohio River, in the northeaster part of Bracken county, distant from Brookville, the county seat, 9 miles, and from Louisville, 180 miles.  The nearest depot is Butler Station, 18 miles distant.  It was first settled in 1796, and was incorporated as a city in 1850.  It was formerly the county seat, but Brooksville took precedence in 1838.  Augusta contains a bank, a flouring mill, with a daily capacity of 100 barrels, a grist mill, a saw and planing mill, a coal elevator, en extensive cigar factory and a very good hotel.  Bracken county is an excellent farming country, and raises the finest tobacco in the state.  The population is 1,500; express, Adams; stages run to Brookville and Germantown.  Augusta has daily mail.  Alexander Case, postmaster.
