Powersville was named for a family of Powers who lived there. The time of its founding and much of its early history is not known, although it is known that at the home of Nim Morford, at the intersection of Highways No. 10 and 19, a tavern existed at one time. It was here that wagoners carrying freight from Augusta to Cynthiana over the mud roads would stop for the night, both going and coming. A saloon was conducted in connection with the tavern. Among the early families of Powersville were the Blades, Morford, Hamilton, Nesbit and Woods families. Powersville now has quite a few attractive homes and two churches. Through consolidation it has lost its school and the pupils are now transported to Brooksville.
