Milton R. Hunter was born in Virginia in 1843, and was reared there until
1856. He learned the trade of saddler in Steubenville, O., was employed
in the Allegheny City arsenal in 1862; in quartermaster's department at
Camp Nelson in 1864; then went to Cincinnati, and in 1872 to Dayton. For
eighteen years he has been foreman of the large concern of Perkins,
Campbell & Co. He made a marvelous saddle that was presented to the
princess of Denmark by the firm. He has served two terms in council; was
one of the founders of the Jackson Club; financier of Anchor Lodge No. 35,
A.O.U.W.; Director of the Citizens' Building Association, and one of the
finance committee for six years. Mr. Hunter has a family of two boys and
three girls.
