M. [Maurice] C. Collins was born in Braceville, O., in 1865. The family
removed to Palmyra a year afterward, and the next sixteen years of Mr.
Collins' life were spent on a farm. During this time he attended public
schools. Next he went to Cleveland, and for three years was traveling
salesman for a New York firm, and afterward became a railway contractor.
In 1886 he engaged in the retail grocery business near his present stand,
corner Sixth avenue and Walnut. He held no public office until last year,
when he was elected to the School Board from the Fourth ward. At the
organization of the new board, Mr. Collins was chosen President. He is
filling the office with ability, zeal, and a wise discretion, fully
appreciating the high standard of the Dayton schools, and earnest to
maintain it.
