In 1937, 75% of Dayton felt the floodwaters: over 7,000 people (out of a population of 10,000)  were forced out of their homes, 392 houses were damaged too badly to be repaired, and 51 houses simply lifted off their foundations and floated down the river, never to be seen, in Dayton, again.
