This Bonte Rope Walk image represents just a tiny section large map that's a piece of a collection of maps that the Sanborn Map Company produced from roughly 1890 to 1930. The company has both later and earlier dates, but generally not in the area covered by Northern Kentucky Views. These maps have extraordinary detail showing locations of buildings in many small towns in Kentucky and other states. It took nearly a hundred such maps of this detail to cover all of Newport, but then that 100 pages included Bellevue, Dayton, a few streets in the Highlands (Fort Thomas), Melbourne, California, and a little Alexandria. There are sets of Newport maps for the year 1896 (27 maps), 1910 (86 maps) and post-1910 (97 maps). The Bonte Ropewalk map is from the 1910 Newport series. They're copyrighted, and while I question the validity of a 100 year old copyright, I've nevertheless elected not to post them in their entirety for you. The good news is that they are all online and you can get to them. You'll need a password. You can get a free password either with your membership in the Kentucky Historical Society ($35 per year), or your library card from the Mary Ann Mongan Library, which is the public library in Covington. You can get a Kenton County card free if you have a Campbell County card, and you can use the password from your home PC.
