Nov. 20, Carrollton. John Montgomery, one of the largest and most successful tobacco buyers of this county died at this home in Ghent last night of consumption, aged about thirty years. Last Saturday night there
was a huge row in the Colored Baptist Church at Ghent during a church
entertainment, the participants being all Negroes. Pistols and
knives were freely drawn, but the only one hurt was Al Cheatham, who
received a painful but not dangerous cut. |
