The educational spirit in Gallatin county has
been a slow, but steady growth. An
improvement in the methods of teaching is visible from year to year.
Our school houses are in fairly good condition, and teachers are
zealous in the discharge of their duties.
The pupil attendance is not so large as it should be, but much
good work is being done.
The
trustee system hangs as a clog on the schools of the state, and should be changed.
One trustee, in my judgment, would give more efficient service
than three. And, if the
county superintendent is, in a large degree, responsible for the success
of the schools of this county, it seems to me that he should have some
voice the selection of the teachers |
