The launch, Night Owl, which is used as a night-ferry between
Madison and Milton, collided with the steamer Vim at two o'clock
yesterday afternoon while the boats were in the dike-chute. Three men,
Thomas Jenkins, Richard Deyhart, and William Evans, were aboard the small
boat, which struck the Vim's hull when the steering gear went bad.
Evans and Deyhart jumped aboard the Vim, and Jenkins jumped into
the river when the boats came together. Jenkins was carried several
hundred yards down the river y the swift dike current before he was picked
up safe and sound by a skiff from the Vim which stopped after the
collision. The men in the launch were returning to Milton when the boats
collided
