Fire at Germantown
Destructive Blaze Causes a Loss of About $10,000 There Early Wednesday Morning
About the biggest fire Germantown ever had has consumed five buildings in that pretty little town early Wednesday morning [November 22].
The blaze is supposed to have started in the colored school and it quickly spread to and reduced to ashes Dr. Dimmitt’s office, Gallagher’s livery stable, a residence belonging to Shed Lewis, colored, and the North Methodist Church.
The loss is estimated at $10,000, on which there is no insurance. Dr. Dimmitt’s policy expired wo weeks ago and had not been renewed.
